FOURTH OF JULY
Friday, July 4; activities all day long
Bend and Sunriver.
Start your day with the 5K “Spark Your Heart” fun run/walk to benefit the Heart Institute of the Cascades. It begins at 8 a.m. in the Shops at the Old Mill District. Sunriver Resort holds a 5-mile run and 3-mile run/walk at 9 a.m. There’s a Lions Club Pancake Breakfast in Bend’s Drake Park from 8 a.m. to noon. Hundreds of local citizens parade their pets—mainly dogs, but also cats, birds, ponies, llamas and exotic creatures—down Bond and Wall Streets in downtown Bend at 10 a.m. A carnival follows in Drake Park from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Sunriver Lodge hosts an Old Fashioned Carnival from 4 to 8 p.m. on its Merchant Trade Lawn. And Bend holds its breath every year for the giant fireworks display that begins over Pilot Butte at 10 p.m.

CASCADE CYCLING CLASSIC
Wednesday, July 9, to Sunday, July 13
Hundreds of the top road cyclists in the United States annually compete in this five-day event, climaxed by the Downtown Bend Criterium on Friday evening, July 11. On other days, courses circle through Prineville, McKenzie Pass and the Cascade Lakes. Founded in 1979, this fundraiser for the Mount Bachelor Sports Education Foundation is the longest-run elite stage race in the country. Information: 541-388-0002, www.cascade-classic.org.

RHYTHM ON THE RANGE CONCERT SERIES

SISTERS OUTDOOR QUILT SHOW

Downtown Sisters
Now in its 33rd year, this is the largest outdoor quilt show in the United States, with more than 1,100 hand-crafted quilts on display at businesses throughout town. Preceding the Quilt Show are the Sisters Quilt Walks (Saturday and Sunday, July 5-6 and 12-13); the Around the Block Fiber Arts Stroll (July 5, 4 to 7:30 p.m.); and five days of quilting classes, lectures and evening programs known as the Sisters Quilters’ Affair (July 7-11). BEND SUMMER FESTIVAL

Now in its 18th year, this rite of summer draws more than 100 arts and crafts vendors from throughout the Northwest to the streets of downtown Bend. CENTRAL OREGON TOUR OF HOMES

New homes in Bend, Sunriver, Redmond and Sisters welcome visitors during this 20th annual showcase for the Central Oregon Builders Association. Maestro Lawrence Leighton Smith leads the festival orchestra in a series of concerts. JELD-WEN TRADITION

Crosswater Golf Course, Sunriver
Oregon’s biggest annual professional golf tournament, presented annually by JELD-WEN and Peter Jacobsen Sports, is a 72-hole event that offers a $2.6-million purse.
